I Can Finally Talk

Posted on May 10, 2015
It’s been 4 months, 8 days.  At last, I can finally talk about my Mom.
October 18, 2014, my Dad flew back from Arizona to Chicago.  Although he had been ill for a while, he knew he was finally home and he was so happy.  He seemed to perk up and we had high hopes for many months with him.  Unfortunately, he had only three good weeks to enjoy home and then we were notified to prepare ourselves, for his time was nearing an end.  All the family arrived at his bedside and we had six wonderful days to laugh, cry, reminisce, and say our goodbyes.  We tried to prepare ourselves for the inevitable.  It is never easy to watch a loved one go but we all felt peace that everything necessary was said and done.

Christmas 2014

Posted on December 28, 2014
This Christmas was the first without Daddy.  In October, Mom and Dad were able to return home, after a 2-year stay in Arizona.  Daddy was so happy to be home and especially to celebrate his 89th birthday in his own house, with family and friends.  He had been wanting to return for two years; he only intended a seasonal visit but, since we were unable to keep him safe in the icy winters, theirs became an extended stay in the land of the sun.  Unfortunately, Daddy’s jubilee was ill-fated because his kidneys began their inevitable cessation shortly after his arrival home.  We were all summoned to his bedside within a month and, following a 7-year illness, he finally passed on, November 13, 2014. http://www.sundbergfh.com/index.php?controller=obituary&action=show&title=john-david-landgren

As with any major event, many adjustments are necessary and we have been attempting to acclimate to those required changes.  This Christmas [...]

How Great Thou Art

Posted on June 1, 2013
Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill perform a magnificent duet of the classic hymn, "How Great Thou Art".  It felt like a flashback to the days when Christianity was openly celebrated on television and emotions were humbly displayed.  In a modern climate of terrorism, destruction, and death, it is a refreshing reminder of the universal love of God for mankind.
